New Works from Eric Robert Parnes
Rebecca Winter from the gallery Stilllife, based in Ellicott City, MD (USA), just sent me the information that the US-artist Eric Robert Parnes has published new works, about which he had been inspired by the recent events in the Middle East.
The Series gaza consists of 8 giclée prints (14×6 inch) showing strongly abstracted explosions. Plainly coloured areas are all that remain from fireballs, smoke and the environment. Sometimes, the impact and destructive force can be sensed. The origin and also the martial context have been dispersed, though. What indeed remains is the “ominous beauty”.
News, a second current series, consists of 6 giclée prints in the format 30 x 35″. “News influenced by modesty” it is being said on the artist’s website: female newsreaders wearing hijabs are depicted, i.e. the persons themselves are invisible; only their clothes are sitting or standing in front of the usual TV studio backgrounds, leaving a disturbing effect: faceless, empty casings present the same old news.
