Wartist presents: “Memories” by Jürgen Graetz

From 29 October 2010, Jürgen Graetz – who grew up in East Germany – will show a selection of his photos in the premises of the Berlin-based political consultancy republik movida GmbH. The exhibition “Erinnerungen” (Memories) is curated by Martin Bayer (Wartist.org), with a welcome address by Lars Lindemann MdB (FDP).

Opening: Dieter Keller (1909-1985) – Photos from the Eastern Front

From 16 October 2010, Gallery Berinson in Berlin is presenting 50 impressive photographs by Dieter Keller that he took while being a German soldier at the Eastern Front in 1941-42. There are countless snapshots from the Second World War from many soldiers, but the quality presented at this exhibition may be unique.

Bruce Conner: The 1970s (Kunsthalle Wien, Vienna)

From 8 October 2010 until 30 January 2011, Kunsthalle Wien in Vienna, Austria, presents the extensive exhibition “Bruce Conner. The 70s” with works of the US artist. Not the least, the almost ruminant video work “Crossroads” is on show, a 1976 b&w short film of 36 minutes length about the first underwater nuclear weapons test on the Bikini Atoll.

An Art Shirt, Made in North Korea

Another news from Korea, after yesterday’s Apology of the Japanese Prime Minister regarding the colonial rule between 1910 and 1945: German artist Dirk Fleischmann used his visiting professorship at Hansung University in South Korea’s capital Seoul, to design shirts and blouses that were produced in North Korea.

Opening: “End Time Europe” (Osnabrück)

The Erich Maria Remarque Friedenszentrum (Erich Maria Remarque Peace Centre) in Osnabrück shows from 20 August 2010 onwards the travelling exhibition “Endzeit Europa” (End Time Europe – A Collective Diary of French and German Authors 1914-1918) by the Brandenburgisches Literaturbüro in Potsdam. Private texts by French and German authors will be shown, together with impressive colour photos by the photographers Jules Gervais-Courtellemont and Hans Hildenbrand.

Opening: Extraschrot @ “A Fistfull of Life” (Berlin)

The artist group Extraschrot of Katharina Arndt and Gero Neumeister shows some of their works in another exhibition, this time e.g. the light installation “Vorsprung durch Technik I” (2009; click on the image for an animation).

Bice Curiger will curate the 54th International Art Exhibition in Venice

The Board of the Biennale di Venezia, chaired by Paolo Baratta, has met today and appointed Bice Curiger as Director of the Visual Arts Sector, with specific responsibility for curating the 54th International Art Exhibition to be held in 2011. Congratulations!

Wartist presents: Textile Art – Matter of Conflict

From 21 May 2010, textile artist Jan Bejšovec will show a selection of his unusual works in the premises of the Berlin-based political consultancy republik movida GmbH. The exhibition Textilkunst aus Konfliktstoff (“Textile Art – Matter of Conflict”) is curated by Martin Bayer (Wartist.org), with a welcome address by Siegmund Ehrmann, MP and cultural political spokesperson of the SPD’s parliamentary group. Einzelplan 14¹, a well-written German-language blog on defence and security matters, published today about the opening of the exhibition “Kunduz, 4 September 2009” at Kunstraum Potsdam. Unfortunately, we could not attend by ourselves, but the “deputyship” through this article could not have been better.

The name refers to the defence part of the Federal Budget ↩
